Matthew's New Eating habits to Annoy Mommy

So first off, you have seen my post and questions on Facebook about ideas for finger foods for daycare to broaden our choices and options so of course we are trying lots of new foods to assist in this goal of having lots of options for Matthew for lunch.

So I bought the pre-sorted greenbeans from walmart in water, ready to go in the microwave for 25 seconds...and Matt really likes the babyfood green beans so this should be a no brainer...lets just gloss over that when we gave him frozen green beans he chewed them for a few seconds then spits it out...I thought well its frozen and reheated maybe he just doesn't like the texture or something...but oh no...he is totally doing it with the canned green beans...he chews a few bites but instead of swallowing, he spits it out...ugh...
So I thought, he likes lunch meat and it was suggested turkey sausage to make those wrapped in biscuit things...and since Matt likes lunch meat, hopefully he will like this...oh no, as he is spitting out his green beans, yeah, totally spitting out the turkey sausage pieces I have painstakenly cut up into small bite size pieces...so now I have another 3 containers of green beans and a bunch of tiny turkey sausages...Jay better help me eat these b/c I am so making sausage and biscuit thingies tomorrow for him...
So maybe he will eat them at school right??? Gotta hope

So for pre-nap afternoon snack, I go to my go-to items, some cheese, puffs and yogurt melts. So guess what, the put in my mouth, get all sticky and wet with my saliva, chew a bit or so and then spitting out is now the eating habit of Matthew...

Yeah, so a huge mess, of course he is wearing a bib so not the end of the world but of course he wants at times to squeeze the yogurt melts and partially digested food in his hands then rub his hair so I get this very sticky food in hair do on top of everything else...it is kinda funny and cute but OMG, not cool, is he eating any of this, I hope so b/c gosh darn it I am trying to feed him healthy stuff and what ends up happening is I feel like I am then eating it on top of my normal meals...I am going to gain all my babyweight back if this keeps up and I keep eating all this food that he won't eat...

So hopefully like all his silly and annoying eating habits I hope this one will pass soon.
Now for an update on the sippy cup, it certainly has been a struggle the last few days but it appears he is doing better with his sippy cup b/c that is all he is offered so I think he is figuring it out if he wants to drink his formula he has to suffer through the sippy cup.
As for the pacifier, that is also coming along, he is only offered the pacifier at nap time and bed time at least at home...not 100% sure with daycare and the gym daycare, but he is going through his day with less reliance on his the pacifier.

On to my next questions, so we searched on the App store for fun stuff for Matthew, I downloaded a few and so far the Flash Cards seem cool and go through a bunch of pictures with sounds provided of cars, food, animals, numbers, shapes, colors...so I like that one and the Fisher price animals is ok, as is the baby hear which is the free version so we just get the 9 animals that come with the free version...but if you have an app that your little one likes and is FREE, b/c I am cheap right now on buying these things b/c he will probably only play with them for a limited time but any cool ones, please let me know. We have the Ipad 2...if someone can suggest a sing along one or some reader one, and if it is cheap and comes with a great recommendation, I might be persuaded to get it for him.

I guess that's it...keep your finger crossed that this spitting out the food habit passes soon...

Saturday Jan 28th

Not much to report, Jay has been on his first interview to St. Louis and it went well so unless something else comes up soon I have a feeling we might find our selves in St. Louis next year.
Matthew is doing great, these tubes have made a huge difference, his walking has really taken off so I think the balance is better and the babbling has picked up so I think he is mimicking and trying to make more sounds with his voice.
I really don't have much to say, we are leaving for Greenville Monday afternoon so I can go to another appointment with my doctor and will get to hopefully catch up with some friend there Monday night...and otherwise, our routine is pretty much followed.
The only big challenge is diet, I am running out of ideas and things to try with Matthew. To move up to the next room and get out of the infant room, Matthew has to be drinking from a sippy cup, which he is doing at Daycare, not so much at home, but I am trying to be a bit more consistent with only giving him his sippy cup at home and not giving into the bottle...the other challenge is coming up with food ideas for day-care. He will have a snack at 9-930ish and lunch at 1130ish. THose meals need to pick-up foods since the staff doesn't have the time to feed with a spoon all the kids. So the challenge is what to feed him. I have had success with sandwiches and egos. Mild success with peas and carrots from a can, but not much success. I have bought some almond butter to try since peanut butter is such a huge no-no in schools so will try that. Cream cheese and Jelly was  huge misfire, he did not like it and just made a huge mess of the bread by putting in his mouth and then spitting out and to really make a huge mess, to then squeeze and play with it in his hands...then he put his hands in his hair and head so it was huge sticky mess...the only one hugely excited about it was Queenie who basically got to eat the whole thing even if it had some Matthew saliva and cooties...
So what else? I bought some of these gerber graduates prepacked meals with Ravioli, but my concern is that I was using day care to try and get one serving of veggies b/c he just seems to not eat much of the veggies or fruits these days...so yeah, any ideas on things I can try...we did scrambled eggs with cheese last night and he did well with that...so I guess that is something I can do...so what am i up to...sandwich, eggs, and egos...and hopefully if I send some greenbeans or peas and carrots a few of those will be eaten...

For the snack, I bought the teddy grahams, b/c I was worried about the honey flavored but he did ok as long as I broke the graham crackers in half so he didn't choke on them...that is at least another snack to add to our things he likes/tolerates...
ok, he appears to be done and now throwing the peas and carrots on the floor...so guess I gotta go...
Any tips or ideas on foods would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

Matthew gets tubes

Well, Yesterday Matthew got tubes put into his ears. It was a very busy day as we had to withhold food all morning, get him to the center by 8am and then we waited for over an hour in a room with other kids waiting to get their tubes in so of course lots of hungry and cranky toddlers. He did great during the procedure but did not have a good after, he still has this horrible ear infection so I am to give him 7 days of drops twice a day instead of the normal 3 b/c we just can't seem to get rid of this infection.

Hopefully that is all about to change now that drainage can occur. Well, the morning and most of the afternoon went horribly, I knew it would be a challenge when he cried the entire 20 minute drive home and then just would not be soothed at all...finally he did fall asleep in my arms but woke up crying when I tried to set him down. So that meant I was trapped holding him for his morning nap.

Well, the good news is now he seems back to normal, just not liking those drops in his ears. It takes both Jay and I to get the drops in and to keep him from grabbing at his ears immediately following. So he had his weight and height checked and he is weighing in at 20lbs 9 oz which is not that much more than a month ago but considering the GI bug and that cold and now this ear infection I guess it is nice he gained some weight. He is also at 29 and 3/4 inches. He has been at 29 inches since his 9 month appointment so really hasn't gotten that growth spurt up but has filled in a bit more over the last 2 months. I am sure by the 12 month appointment he will be in the 30+ inch realm and should be almost that 22 lbs....got to get to 22 lbs so we can turn him forward in the car seat but until then, rear facing is the fact of life

It is cold and dreary this weekend so we are not doing much, just chores and relaxing...which means I am basically on the couch under blankets trying to not freeze, wearing sweats and at least one other layer underneath while Jay prances around in shorts and t-shirts and complains how warm it is in the house...yeah, did I mention I am freezing???

Well, must get back to my on-line course work while Matt is napping...almost done with my training course for South University...just the final quiz.

11 Month Update and MLK Update

Well, we made it Jan, Matthew is officially 11 months old, walking a few steps before falling and crawling all over and is going to have his first surgery, tubes are being put in on Friday, Jan 19th.

So for the 11 Month stuff...I am so late, but what can I say, I seem to be behind since the new year and just super busy. He is weighing in at about 20 lbs...hard to say b/c the last few Doctor' appointments we have been dealing with throw-up or diarrhea so his weight has been fluctuating. So it has been around the 20 lbs mark so we are going to go with that. As for his clothes, I am slowly getting ride of the 9 month bodysuits b/c they are just a tad tight, but separates, especially the pants are still fitting. Now his sleepers have to be the 12 month size as those run small and tight so he is wearing all his christmas goodies right now. As for 12 month clothes, the body suits are fitting but of course most are short-sleeves so with the weather being in the 30-40s and nasty cold with winds that just bit through you, he is not wearing those short sleeve body suits. He has some really cute shirts that we are wearing with his 9 month cords and fleece pants, but 12 month pants are mostly too big in the waist and too long. But since the appetite is back the last few days, I expect we are due with a huge growth spurt.
As for what I have noticed, he is more interested in drinking my drinks, still not loving the sippy cup at home and we are in need of getting some different cups, any suggestions? the Nuby ones are not my current favorite, but not sure if playtex or something else is really good...so any suggestions would be great.
We are doing a better job of eating, but since he wants to put his fingers in the food, if it is not pick-up types of food it can be struggle to feed him, if he doesn't like what is on the spoon he is not easy to feed with it. Luckily, green peas and beans and yogurt are still favorites and if you mix some pear or apples into some of those other veggies he might eat it for a little while before he decides to fight with you.

So the ears, we went to see Dr. Lim, who I think Matt thought was Uncle Mo so he immediately went to him and was pretty ok with letting Dr.Lim check him out, so big Thanks to Uncle Mo for making Matthew Korean tolerant! So we have had ear infections non-stop since November and this last one was bad, with the stomach bug it was really miserable for a few days and this new antibiotic which was suppose to be super strong at day 6, so when the 5 doses were given and well into his system, the ears were no even close to cleared up so the Dr. wanted to schedule tubes as soon as possible and that was well this Friday. So wish us luck that he does ok and doesn't have one of those really small risks of being the kid that has a bad reaction to meds.

For MLK weekend, of course i have so much to do and with my trip to Greenville this afternoon to make my appointment tomorrow morning I just really needed to have this morning dedicated to working on my new on-line class with South University, grade my APU stuff and well, get this blog done, pictures uploaded (so not gonna happen) and you know that our internet stopped working last night (Sunday 15 JAN) and is still not working, it is super cold so either our crappy dish network stuff is frozen over or something is super wrong with our motorolla box...I hope it is a problem with the apartment complex equipment and maybe later today when it warms up it will be working again but I just didn't need this this morning, plus the 530 am wake-up from Matthew, so my patience is short, so add in it is a holiday and our apartment workers are lazy on a regular work day so I am sure no one will be working today or if they do, won't get our internet issue...ugh...Jay also needed to do some major work and studying today and of course this is just not helping...now how am I doing this update, well, I am at McDonalds...ugh...even ate the egg mcmuffin, it was so gross, can't believe I ate it but needed to justify being here for so bought that thing, which looked like the healthiest thing on the menu...and now I so regret it...want to go run, but it is just soooo cold.
So give me hopefully a few days and I will hopefully get those 11 month pictures posted, just might be a few days depending on if the apartment folks can help me figure out if our problem is their equipment or if I have to go get new stuff for us to figure out if it is our equipment.

ok, enough, I am getting worked up just typing this. To a happy MLK day to everyone, and hopefully a short week...more to come when hopefully this surgery on Friday goes well and we have a happy, ear infection free little boy.

Survived the first weekend of 2 sickies

Well, the first full week of the New Year is over and we survived. Jay seemed better by Sunday and Matthew transitioned from the stomach bug to his ear infection so while he got better in some ways, no more throwing up by Saturday, he still had issues with his ears and GI tract, but I think it was induced by the antibiotics.

I am keeping him home this morning with me since he is still clingy and having some gas and GI issues. What a morning for me...now I am feeling a tickle on the back of my throat so hopefully it goes away b/c I do not have time to be sick right now with all the stuff coming up for me.

So week one, my workout summary: running 1hr, 4.07 miles for the week, yeah only 2 workouts but I did at least get out despite losing 2 days for Doctors and dealing with sickies. Biking 2 hrs 37 miles. That was 3 days as well of spin-bike riding, granted 2 days just 30 minutes but hey, again, I was having some motivation issues this week. Other, 1 hr, that is walking at the mall yesterday while we waited for the flat tire Jay found on his car to get fixed and yoga.
So total: 4hrs all week, not a good week but considering all the other things going on, I am glad I fit in those four hours. So far this week is not looking all that promising but that is ok, I need my little man to get better so that is more important.

So the big game tonight, I have matthew sporting one of his LSU onesizes, granted none are long sleeves so when we run out this morning to get his formula and more diapers from Sam's club I will be putting a jacket b/c it is cold here this morning, high of 45 today...ugh...but football weather I guess. Jay is also sporting one of his LSU ties so all around it is an LSU day in this household...although we are not going anywhere and most likely with the night I had last night I probably won't even stay awake for the whole game.
So last thing, is the Downton Abby miniseries on PBS was last night and I didn't plan to watch it but I got sucked in...what a great show...so add that I was then up to 11pm and wow, it was an exhausting weekend.

ok, smells like Matthew either passed more gas or finally got his morning constitution....gotta go, he is grabbing at me. Have a great Monday of week 2 of the New year!

2 sickies in the house

Well Matt is doing better but he is still producing something foul every few hours out his backside, but it appears that GI bug has jumped to Jay and he has spend all night dealing with the upset stomach, throw-up and dry heaves...ugh, poor hubby.

So I am doing it all, laundry, cleaning, care-taking, walking the dog and changing all those dirty, stinky diapers.
Well, not much time to really post, gotta go, I smell another foul surprise for me in Matthew's pants...

Our First Stomach Bug

So today things seemed to be getting back on a normal routine, Matthew slept all night in his bed in his room, he went to day care and according to his teachers played and had a good day...came home, had some babyfood, some pick-up foods and we put him down about 3pm to nap....

he woke up about 445pm and it has been hell since then...so I gave him some string cheese...and the first throw up produced some of the pieces of cheese...did I do something wrong on giving him cheese? string cheese? The rest of it looked to be formula from his afternoon pre-nap feeding...

So get him bathed, no fever when we took his temp and get him in new clothes...he seems normal...give him his bottle about 45 minutes after the first bout...and sure enough he takes 2 oz and about 15 minutes later, he throws that up....now he is acting like he doesn't feel good....so I call the Peds office and leave a message for the on-call Dr. that was at 6:09pm and it states in the message they should return your call within 30 minutes or you need to call back b/c the message didn't get through....so now I have an upset, dry heaving baby and I am waiting to hear back for what to do....
Jay of course let his stethoscope at work so he can't listen to Matt's belly to see if there if there is something going on there....ugh....we just had the all-clear on his ears and was at the Dr's office yesterday...never fails right that they get sick on you just after being given a clean bill of health....

ok, looks like he is falling asleep...poor thing, he is so not feeling well...might be a long night for us....

Sorry for not posting pictures from Louisiana...I have been trying to catch up on work, clean the house and just get back into a routine...the pictures will just have to wait....sorry....

New Years Day

So my link  to facebook is not working...so all of you that use my post on facebook to check on the blog are probably missing a blog or 2...oh well...maybe it will start working again.
So far not much to say, can't believe it is 2012...2011 flew by in so many ways.
We are going to watch football and I am going to catch up on work...yep 2 on-line classes end tonight (sunday 1155pm EST) so I have of course lots of late work to grade and get grades updated so I can post them later this week. 2 more classes still going, but down to 2 is not so bad...I don't have any classes on horizon and my paperwork to get hired with Southern Online University didn't get there by Friday so I got this somewhat Nasty e-mail from the HR lady about it...what can I do, I sent her the tracking number, asked if I was going to be starting in Jan and should get on with the training course and no response, even e-mailed the instructor for the training course and she didn't respond so I guess I am not going to be teaching is 3 or 4 weeks...I am not going to lose sleep over it...and so far not impressed with this HR lady, I did my best but I guess stuff from Ville Platte Louisiana to PA is just taking more than 5 days and add in the holiday nonsense...what do you expect...and who anyway tries to get things accomplished over the holidays when folks are busy with family stuff and the mail is so slow??? oh, I vented, now back to HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Hopefully this will post to face book today and you can enjoy my musings!
Feb 7th is the big day for us this year, so keep your prayers and thoughts our way....hopefully we will have good news to report by 1 April!
